RANT: Is being single the new curse word? & why I love being single

Being ‘single’ is viewed in the same light as gone off milk (shitty and a pity), except of course gone off milk is utterly repulsive whereas being single can be, if done correctly, the time of your life and I’m digging it.

The truth in the matter is if you’re single people assume you’re a failure for not securing a man or a woman. They assume that you must be lonely, that you never get laid or that you cry into your pillow every single night.

Men and woman ask me daily ‘do you have a boyfriend?’ and when I say ‘no’ I almost always get the same sort of reply ‘aw that’s a shame, how comes?’ HOW COMES? Well, let me tell you why. Because I haven’t met someone right for me, because I’m content and happy, because I don’t feel like I need or will ever need to find the ‘other half of me’ I don’t need to lean on someone else, I can handle life and all of its shit perfectly fine by myself and I’m so career focused I don’t have time to sit on a sofa cuddling a boyfriend while watching Saturday night TV.

‘You’re young you will change your mind’ is another phrase my single arse is sick of hearing too. Yes, one day I may meet someone and they’ll rock my world but why the hell should I settle for anything less till then? I don’t want a boyfriend for the sake of it and so many girls and women feel like that without a boyfriend their life is dull, that there must be something wrong with them and they let the loneliness get to them too much. Let me tell you now being single does NOT make you lonely, being single does not mean that you’re unsuccessful and being single does not mean that there is something wrong with you.

I used to be terrified of being single. I worried about things like ‘What if I never find another man who will put up with my laugh?’, ‘What if I never meet anyone?’, ‘What if I never go to the Eiffel Tower with a boyfriend and put a stupid lock on a bridge?’, ‘Who will watch Netflix and cuddle me?’ Well, in my discovery I have learnt that 1, you can do all these things with friends. 2, you can do all these things and more by yourself – oh and you can still get laid when you’re single, don’t worry about that one.

Sure I like the idea of a relationship, in fact, I’m lying I love that idea. I’d never turn down genuine love but at the same time, I’ve never gone out looking for it. If it’s meant to happen for me, it will just happen, when I least expect it and if it never happens then thank god I love my own company.

In the mean time, I have no shame in being single. Being single has drawn me closer to friends, I’ve made new friends and had more ‘me’ time. I’ve focused on myself, my career and what I want out of life. I’ve matured and discovered new things, hobbies, interests and passions. Most importantly I have learnt so much about myself and who I am as an independent person. While also having a whole double bed to myself - tad lonely but at least no one accidentally leans on my hair.

The men you will meet on Tinder #2

In the last six months, Tinder has continued to ruin my life. I have gone on dates, been catfished so horrifically, saw someone for a couple of months and even had a lovely bloke tell me he wants to ‘stab my Bratz doll head’.

If we go back in time to six months ago I wrote the piece ‘The type of guys you will meet on Tinder’ and well half a year has passed since then and therefore I have more Tinder experiences to warn you about.

The fuck boy and the Where’s Wally guys are no longer our biggest problem…

The Angry Bird
Ah, this one. Let me explain the Angry Bird to you ladies. Mr Angry will seem like a real decent bloke, normal bio, looks cute in his pictures BUT he is after one thing and one thing only, the nudes. That’s right, the first thing he will say to you is ‘send me a nude’. And oh god help you if you say no. He will go all angry on your arse and call you every name under the sun. I had a lovely experience of a guy raging at me for 20 minutes, telling me that he wanted to ‘stab my Bratz doll head’ and ‘eat my dog’.

The Stalker
This guy will manage to find you and message you on every single platform of social media. He’ll go fully FBI style and track down your Nan’s Facebook, he’ll find your Snapchat, and he will fully find your address.

A slightly nicer version of the Fuck Boy
This guy will give off all the vibes that he likes you. He’ll get to know you on a deeper level, he’ll tell you he likes you, heck he might even take you to meet his family and then you’ll fall for him and that’s when he’ll go cold turkey and cut everything off. He’s not a fuck boy, this type of guy is too nice but he simply will just waste your time. You will feel like you were just a bit of ‘fun’ and nothing else to him and then you will watch Bridget Jones while eating Ben and Jerry’s and realise how alike you are and how you will be single for your entire life.

The Cat-Fish
So I rocked up to a date, hair curled, little black dress on, my makeup on point and well, let’s just say the guy needed to update his Tinder pictures. He looked like a different bloke. He was 19 in his pictures, hot, slim and a jawline that could kill but in person, he was 27 and you couldn’t see his jaw line anymore. Lesson learnt, add them on Snapchat and suss them out first.

So although Tinder has continued to utterly wreck my life it's all for the sake of womankind that I can warn you guys, right?

The most desirable homeware wish list

I have never been more frustrated in my entire life and no it is not sexual frustration, thank god. I digress, I am at that ripe old age of being utterly on edge to move out and have my own place.

Now, I love my family to pieces that I live with especially my dogs, they are not the reason I want to move out what so ever. However, I need my own space now. I want to decorate every single inch of my own home, I want to go home décor shopping and purchase a dishwasher, I want to be able to blast my music as loud as I want, have people around anytime I want at any time of the night and I just want me, myself and I to have my own space.

One of my biggest passions is interior and decorating but sadly right now I can only really express that in my bedroom. But I have already started picking up pieces for when I move out, I now own that zebra rug and will be picking up the cactus vases next.

My taste is very modern but I love to mix it up by throwing in quirky accessories to add colour and spice up a room. I also have a taste for urban interiors with rose gold details, rusty interiors and bare red brick walls instead of paint. Fake fur coating the floors, quirky artwork covering the walls and bookshelf’s that look like displays are what life is all about.

Will you be purchasing anything from my wish list? I’d love to know in the comments!

The limited edition highlighter that you need in your life

I’m a sucker for anything limited edition and a highlighter that says ‘up all night’ on it is no exception.

When scrolling through the John Lewis beauty section at midnight the other day I couldn’t resist adding the new Yves Saint Laurent highlighter into my basket. I have a couple now, including the leopard print one, just sadly I missed out on the one covered in red lips.

I have reviewed the Touche Eclat on here before so I’ll link it here (click here). I just had to make you all aware of this fab limited edition product before it sells out!

Do you have to collect limited edition makeup too?

The prettiest Instagram accounts to follow

Before I even make coffee in the morning the first thing I do is have a little scroll through my Instagram feed.

Now you may think that is a terrible idea, that I’m a typical teenager for going straight on my phone but there is a key reason why I like to scroll through Instagram before I do anything else. I like to soak up the inspiration like an actual sponge. I’m a full-time journalist and a part-time blogger and boy oh boy do I need to gather inspiration daily.

Whether it is article ideas, blog post ideas, illustration ideas, outfits, makeup looks, I gather a lot of my inspiration and boost my work ethic through that little app. Although the new icon is repulsive… I digress.

Here are my favourite Instagrammers that inspire me the most – that I so think you should follow.

Megan @Meganellaby

This Mancunian blogger is my biggest inspiration. I and Megan have the exact same style and exactly the same eye for interior. I am forever finding things on her blog and Instagram that make me hit the ‘order’ button. So thanks, Megan, you cost me a bomb. But it is worth every penny. She is also super lovely and has a bloody fantastic YouTube channel. If you mega love fashion and interior ya all need to check her out.

Sarah @Sarahhashcroft

Sarah is the sassiest of them all. She has never posted an outfit that I didn’t love. She has recently just moved into her own place as well so I am excited for her décor posts.

Amber @Amberroseoatman

I am obsessed with Amber’s makeup looks. She always has, I must say, flawless makeup. I have Amber to thank for being poor and owning over 50 pairs of eyelashes because I am forever ordering the eyelashes she wears. If I need some inspiration for my makeup look I always go to Amber’s Insta. Although mine ends up looking like a clown compared…

Claudia @Blackwanda

Claudia just has the cutest Instagram that makes you feel all nostalgic as you scroll through the Disney posts and reminisce over your childhood. She owns everything Disney you could ever imagine and well, if you’re like me and love Disney and pretty photos you need to give her a follow.

Audrey @Frassyaudrey

Audrey has a fantastic body and is incredibly beautiful you just can’t help but want to be nosy and follow her life. Beyond this she is an incredibly lovely person and always sends out really positive messages about enjoying life. And of course the photography is bloody fantastic.

Kate @Kate.lavie

I’ve followed Kate’s blog and Instagram since I was 14 years old and she has always inspired me. Her photography always makes me work harder at my own and she just has an eye for piecing things together to create something beautiful. (her home is to die for!)

Kylie @Kyliejenner

Of course Kylie is in this list. While yes, her life is fabulously interesting and I am super nosy and have a guilty pleasure of seeing what she is up to there is a significant reason while Kylie is on this list. These people on this list not only appeal to my tastes they all inspire me because they all work really hard and Kylie, you can’t argue, has her fingers in a lot of pies.

Lua @Luanna90

Lua makes me want to move to New York City ASAP sit in a coffee shop, write to my hearts content and wear the sassiest outfits as I strut through the big apple. Lua’s fashion sense massively inspires me. I love her rock ’n’ roll approach and how she mixes textures and patterns.

Lumi @Lumibengal

Lumi is a Bengal pussycat and well, you just have to follow him he will melt you with cuteness.

Nikita @Meetmeinparee

Nikita has simply the most adorable Instagram. From her food (which she even manages to make look cute) to her décor and outfits everything is super ‘Instagram worthy’. Nikita actually inspires me to post more on Instagram and make it look artsy.
