A look back at my Christmas wish lists & what I'm buying myself this year

Writing a Christmas wish list is getting harder and harder each year – now that is something I thought I would never say aloud, well, write.

Growing up I would ask for everything - aka I was a brat. My mum would hand me the Argos and Toys R Us catalogues and she’d say “circle what you would like for Christmas”. I might as well have just circled every page.

I didn’t grow up rich but both my parents always made sure there were presents under the tree that I and my brother would adore. I look back and remember how happy and excited I was to get a Girls Aloud CD and I’ll never forget the year I unwrapped a remote control dinosaur. That thing was dope.

I knew I would never unwrap the latest iPhone or computer. I knew I’d go to school a week later and everyone would be showing off their new phones but deep down, I didn’t give a f*ck. I was quite content trying to sing along with Girls Aloud in my room.

I was content because I knew my mum worked damn hard in a job she didn’t like and that my dad was out in the freezing cold every day on a building site doing extra hours just so I and my brother could have presents that morning. Knowing how much they wanted me to be happy was enough of a present itself.

Now that I earn my own money I’ve learned the true value of it. My parents always told me, “If you work hard enough you will be able to buy the latest phones and nice clothes” so, I did just that and I thank them, for every Christmas that they bent over backwards to give me a good one.

So this year, after I’ve bought everyone else’s presents, I’m going to pick up a few things off this list for myself to celebrate a year of working hard. But I thought I would share it with you guys in case you needed some gift ideas – you’re welcome!
