What I've learned about love and relationships

With Doomsday (Valentines) out of the way it’s the perfect time to reflect on past relationships and love, the good and the ugly.

Admittedly and rather shamelessly, throughout secondary school I perhaps did focus more on my relationships than my education. It started of as an 11-year-old who simply wanted to put a boys name in her MSN message to look sassy, of course next to a jumping up and down heart emoji. I even asked out a boy who had a cool sounding name just for the purpose of my MSN, then dumped him the next day by the bicycle shed. The reason being, he put my name in his MSN name but didn’t put a cute enough emoji next to ‘Soph’. Utterly tragic I know.

I met my first boyfriend on MSN in year 8, after my friends decided to add some boys into the chat because clearly I wasn’t entertaining enough. I know all the 90’s kids reading this will understand how easy it was to date on MSN, if only Tinder was on that level… We dated for three years after that, right up till the start of year 11.

We had a mutual break-up because we had grown apart. We were no longer the 12-year-olds giggling on MSN to cats making weird noises on YouTube. I learnt a lot from that relationship, the most important thing being that there are some real gentlemen out there and not every man will treat you badly.

I dated my second boyfriend throughout sixth-form for just less than 2 years. We went on first holidays together, had a lot in common and a lot of memories. I suppose looking back I saw it as a relationship that could surely never end, someone that I did see as being in my life forever. He made me more confident and inspired me to really make a go for it with my blog and career.

When we broke up it was the first time and the only time I have experienced true heart break. It’s odd you feel so angry and hurt at first, you feel like you will feel like that forever. Nine months later I completely respect why he ended it. He grew apart and wanted different things, you can’t argue with that.

I’ve spent the last nine months focusing on my career, while lapping up the last year I have of being classed as a teenager. Sure, I have gone on dates and even left one smiling at how well it went. I felt myself starting to like him, only to realise two days after that a relationship was the last thing on my mind and I needed time to be by myself. The last few months I have really realised why my relationships may have broken down because of myself and the things I need to improve on, to be fully able to make someone else happy.

I’m incredibly lucky to of had the relationships that I have had so far in my life. Both taught me and showed me that although not all relationships work out, sometimes breaking up isn’t the end of the world and it is just simply because you have grown apart. Both also proved to me that despite all we hear in the media, there are men and boys out there that are not assholes.

Benefit They're Real - honest review!

Miniatures are simply the cutest things on the planet after puppies and kittens of course. They’re also the best way to try out any product before you make a massive splurge on something, only to realise it is more useless than those £50 flip flops you brought and can never wear because you live in England…

Benefit Cosmetics is the best beauty company I know for miniatures. Christmas is the ultimate time to test out all of their products because of the gift sets, kindly I was gifted this little They’re Real set and of course I’ll be sharing my verdict.

They’re Real Mascara
I have used this mascara since I was 13 or 14-years-old and will most likely purchase it till the day I die. So having miniatures lying around is always a good thing in my books. It’s the blackest mascara I have ever used and lasts all day. I’ve also never had trouble with it sliding down my face in the rain either, which is always a bonus! Although, it is hard to get off.

They’re Real Remover
However, the mascara is easy to remove with the remover. I can’t help but feel like Benefit purposely made it hard so that they can try and flog you a £14 eye make-up remover over the counter. Anyone else? Don’t get me wrong it is an amazing eye make-up remover but there are ones in the drugstore that are just as good.

They’re Real eyeliner
Personally, I and this little guy just didn’t work out. All the product came out at once and just made such a mess on my poor eyelid. The consistency of the ink was hard and honestly it did just make such a mess. I’ll be sticking with my holy grail L’Oreal Super Liner.

The verdict
I will continue to forever buy the mascara, I’m going to play around with the eyeliner and the remover I will continue to use and buy the full size because it is darn good.

Things that make me happy!

Often we focus on the negative and forget to bathe in even the smallest things that make us happy. Spilling your Costa Coffee down a white blouse can put you in the type of mood that will just ruin your whole day. But why not think of it like this: at least you can afford that overly priced £3.50 coffee.

I often find myself doing this, getting irritated at really small problems. Like this morning I laddered my £8 John Lewis tights because of my nails. While cursing in a rampage of annoyance and destruction, as I threw them in the bin I thought to myself: well, you’re the idiot who got claw shaped acrylic nails in the first place? This wouldn’t of happened if you had used your brain and thought of girl issues like laddering tights.

I threw on a pair of black skinnies while thanking my lucky star that I hadn’t broken a nail during that tragic moment in my short life.

There are so many little things that make us happy every single day, so I thought I would share some little things that make me happy!

When I receive a text or call from someone who I miss or haven’t spoken to in awhile.

Costa Coffee hot chocolates, my guilty pleasure!

When a friendly cat approaches me on the street, I can’t be alone on this; I simply can’t help but stroke the friendly cat and talk to it.

Cuddling – it’s been a very, very long time but I do remember how comforting it is.

Meeting someone new and getting on straight away.

New make-up launches, I think we all know how happy this makes me.

Looking at your bank account and having more money in it than you thought you did.

Finding something so funny that your eyes water and your jaw ends up aching.

When you begin to start feeling tipsy and your face goes warm. Especially a happy moment after two drinks when you realise you’re a light weight and don’t have to spend £50 like everyone else!

Coming home after a long day at work to be greeted by the two most excited dogs on the planet.

Leave me a comment of some little things that make your day!
