Coregasm hell: Orgasming mid workout has me worried about returning to the gym



‘Why do I get so horny when I workout?’ I googled with a confused expression slapped across my face.

Leaning forward to grab hold of my glass of orange juice I took a thoughtful swig before pressing the enter key and being introduced to the reason why my vagina gets fanny flutters as I pop a squat.

Up the six Google letters popped in all their delightful colours as the loading symbol directed me to a list of articles documenting my issue in other women, I hit command and opened more than my mind could handle.

Thankfully I was hit with an overwhelming realisation that I am not alone. I am not the only woman who can reach climax through exercise. 

The first thing I discovered was a study carried out by the University of Texas at Austin which in its research shows that premenopausal women's sex drives can hella increase after hitting the gym hard.

Its staggering findings found that exercise can even help women whose interest in sex has been sabotaged by antidepressants, divorce or genuinely feeling low.

No surprise there really. We all have a general knowledge that exercise releases endorphins, right? (chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain).

So logically speaking again it is no surprise exercising can have a dramatic effect on one's sex drive as the body is up, moving and feeling happy.

But why, oh why, was working out causing me to have to stop mid-workout and take a massive old deep breath because I was literally about to orgasm?

The first time I stopped it because it quite honestly freaked me the fuck out. 

However the second time I hoped on Google after with much curiosity as it suddenly hit me, 'I can't cum in a gym'.

You see, let me explain without being too graphic, what the hell happens to me while working out as like I said, I'm genuinely not alone this happens to only a small fraction of us but still, it's interesting, right?

There's a famous saying called, 'runner's high' which is described as feeling warm, tingly and euphoric while crossing over the finish line.

It's a feeling free of anxiety and inhibitions, aka much like how you feel when you are horny.

Now, some of us ladies get this while working out if we are seeing progress, getting stronger or lasting longer in the gym - it does not happen to every single woman.

And ladies, you all know what happens when something makes you tingle downstairs. It can quickly intensify and get out of control if you don't switch your thoughts and what you're doing up.

While holding a weight above your head, this isn't so easy and therefore, the excitement is just that, too damn exciting. 

Other women who get this feeling say it either makes them want to fight or fuck. Personally, I'll take whatever at that moment I really don't care.

It appears to stem from growth in confidence, self-love and as Kourtney Kardashian recently said on her website POOSH, the ability to turn yourself on.

Which girls, if you are getting turned on while working out, perhaps you have the sexual identity Autosexuality.

Speaking on Kourtney's lifestyle website, sex expert, therapist and writer Casey Tanner explained "it is a trait wherein one is turned on by engaging in their own eroticism".

Casey said: "A prime example of this is simply women in general. While it may not be true for everyone, we generally feel more sexual and turned on when we feel we ourselves are sexy. But it's not just about the ladies.

"While masturbation is an example, autosexuality may extend beyond sexual behaviour to include feeling longing or desire for oneself.

"It can also be the ability to turn oneself on through looking at, visualising, touching, or smelling oneself."

After hearing of this, it made me think, am I turning myself on while working out because I'm impressed my lazy bum is actually doing this? Possibly so.

I then fell upon the term coregasm which explained perfectly what was happening to me.

A coregasm is a catchy, funny term for a very real phenomenon that sees a person experience a spontaneous orgasm while doing intense exercises that engage (or perhaps overtax) the core.

This would explain why I sometimes struggle to get through my set of squats - and no, not because I'm tired.

While it sounds marvellous being able to have an orgasm while working out from home, I'm sure going back to the gym is going to be a very different story...

Hopefully, this article has made at least one woman realise she's not alone and it is actually very natural - just rare and a tad embarrassing but you might as well make the most out of it!
